Apicoectomy (root tip resection)

Surgical removal of the root tip and surrounding inflammation.

About this service

Apicoectomy is a surgical procedure that removes the tip of a tooth root along with inflammatory tissue (granuloma or cyst). It is indicated when classic root canal treatment has not delivered a lasting result - due to complex canal anatomy, a fractured instrument or an infection that does not respond to therapy.

Step by step

How the procedure works

  1. CBCT scan for precise planning.
  2. Local anaesthesia.
  3. Surgical access below the gum and exposure of the root tip.
  4. Resection (removal) of 2-3 mm of the root tip.
  5. Removal of pathological tissue (granuloma/cyst).
  6. Retrograde root filling with MTA.
  7. Suturing and follow-up at 7 days.

When it is needed

Materials & technology

Piezo-surgery for precise resection, MTA (Mineral Trioxide Aggregate) for retrograde filling - biocompatible with excellent long-term success.
